A Warm and Inviting City Apartment For a Rescue Dog and Her Owners

A Warm and Inviting City Apartment For a Rescue Dog and Her Owners

Hi there kompisar! Scrolling through my instagram this weekend (as you do); I struck upon this dining room shot from the feed of Johanna Brüggemann, and it stopped me in my tracks. After a little messaging, I discovered that Johanna is founder of Studio Gingko - a digital creation agency, and lives with her husband and Spanish rescue dog Elli in Kiel, Germany. A quick google maps route finder search tells me that Johanna's home is a mere 4 hour's drive from where I live in Malmö, Sweden - which might account for the touch of Scandi (I'm seeing so many fab Scandi design pieces!). But let's not kid anyone here, Elli totally steals the show - I love that she's made herself completely at home in almost every corner of the home. Perfect Monday vibes!

In Spring and summer, the family head to their allotment cottage nearby.

Such a lovely relaxed, vibe. Thank you Elli (and Johanna) for showing us how to do Monday in style!

Quick lamp round up as there are so many statement ones here:

Were there any details in particular that stood out to you?

A few other homes from north Germany today:

Have a great start to the week!

Niki

PS So many exciting things have been happening at our tiny cabin this weekend. We now have a bed (with lots of storage underneath)! You can see a very short film about it here

A Small-ish City Flat With a Lush Balcony & Clever Room-Divider

A Small-ish City Flat With a Lush Balcony & Clever Room-Divider

Hi campers! I hope you had a lovely, relaxing easter weekend? I'm feeling all revived and ready for some inspiring Scandi-style home inspiration, I hope you are too? I thought I'd kick off with this charming Berlin apartment. Bang in the centre of the city, it measures a mere 50 metres square (538 foot square), but owners Kateryna Gonchar and her partner have made sure it covers all bases. The light-filled kitchen leads out to a lush, green balcony oasis, while a second room has been divided into a bedroom, sitting room and dining area. Oh, and there's even a small workspace and of course, a bathroom! A perfect oasis for two in the heart of the German capital!

An extendable balcony table ensures that the balcony can cater for a cosy evening for two - or a party for four or more. Smart!

Notice how the shelving also includes a mirror to reflect the light and visually enlarged the room - a clever small space decorating technique.

Such a clever use of space - and above all, a lovely place to come home to after a day in the office.

I can just seem myself on that balcony with a cool glass of rosé on a balmy summer evening, how about you?

See more of Kateryna's home here.

Would you like to feel inspired by more clever small space design ideas today? Check out:

Har det så fint!

Charleston Travel Guide – A Weekend in the Holy City

This post is sponsored by The Grand Bohemian Charleston, but all text, images, and opinions are all my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that keep Thou Swell running!

Charleston weekend travel guide with the best places to stay, eat, and shop in the Holy City on Thou Swell #charleston #southcarolina #charlestontravelguide #travelguide #weekendguide #charlestonsc #discoversc

The past few months I’ve been lucky enough to be in-and-out of the Holy City (a nickname given for its many churches) for a new interior design client I’ve been working with. I extended my last site visit to have a belated birthday celebration at the end of July and had my friends come down for a couple of days to really enjoy the city for a weekend. With the fabulous Grand Bohemian Hotel as my launchpad, I was able to enjoy some amazing meals, shopping, and activities to share in this weekend guide. There’s so much charm in this coastal city, so bookmark this Charleston travel guide and make it your next getaway!

Where to Stay

There are so many charming hotels in Charleston, but the key to stay in as close to the historic district as possible. The Grand Bohemian Hotel was just a block from King Street, making it in walking distance from most of our exploring and restaurant reservations throughout the weekend. The hotel has an art gallery on the main level (a signature element of Kessler Collection hotels), a beautiful courtyard in the front, and a rooftop that makes a fun spot for enjoying a cocktail with the sunset.
